Amy Wyatt
Campus Minister and Director of the Wesley Foundation

Welcome!  We are delighted that you stopped by to visit us on the web.  New to the UW Wesley Club, I have served previously as a United Methodist parish minister, a campus minister, and a theology instructor.  I count it as a privilege to be able to journey with students, as they forge friendships, wrestle with philosophical issues, and name their spirituality.  My personal spiritual interests involve making connections between spirituality and the arts, through dance, theatre, and the visual arts.   As a minister, I strive to create space where everyone feels welcome, safe, and free to explore.  As a recent book title declares, Wesley Club is here to provide a place, or even better a community, where you can Eat, Pray, and Love.  We are here to challenge and support you on your journey.  You are invited to stop by in person!

                                                     Peer Ministers

Heather Haack-Senior Peer Minister, a born-and-raised United Methodist, is a senior at the University of Washington majoring in English Literature and minoring in Music.  Originally from Hawaii, she is still not fully adjusted to the cool and rainy weather of Seattle, but is making the best of it.  When she isn't contemplating the mysteries of the Methodist faith, she plays piccolo with the Husky Marchng band.  In the future, she plans to attend graduate school to get her Masters degree in Library and Information Sciences.  Her favorite thing about Wesley Club is the welcoming environment and the opportunities to make a difference within the UW community.

Caitlin LeClair-the Junior Peer Minister, a baptized and confirmed United Methodist, is currently a sophomore at the University of Washington.  She is majoring in French and minoring in Italian (no wonder she loves the Tower of Pisa!).  Caitlin hails from the golf-ridden town of Augusta,  Georgia.  When she is not praising John Wesley or memorizing hymns (her favorite is How Firm a Foundation), she likes to read, window shop, watch movies, fraternize with her friends and bake delicious foodstuffs.  In regards to the weather, she states, "It's coooold and rainnnnnny." Clearly,  she and Heather get along well.  In fact, she is letting Heather write this bio for her.   Her favorite thing about Wesley Club is she getting to bake for the group and not have to eat all of the food by herself.  The club is thankful too.

Wesley Foundation Board Members

Jill Richardson, treasurer

Jill has been serving on the board since 1999. She has a strong United Methodist background coming from growing up as a PK (preacher's kid) and involved in the church at district and conference levels both as a youth and adult. She would say she has United Methodism in her DNA. Currently, she attends Redmond United Methodist church and teaches Jr. High Sunday School. Jill has served as our Board Treasurer the last several years and brings a concise and logical interpretation of our financial concerns. She is self-employed as a property manager, builder and developer. One of her passionate hobbies is motorcycling.

Rodney Rutherford, vice president

Rodney participated as a student in the Wesley Foundation while attending UW from 1995 to '98. He has been a member of the Wesley Foundation Board since before graduating. He grew up at Renton First United Methodist Church and now attends Lake Washington United Methodist Church. While in high school, he enjoyed Starlight Sound Dances, Convo, and lock-ins; he was also involved in the Seattle United Methodist Youth Team (SUMYT). While at UW, he worked as a peer minister for the Wesley Foundation. Today he works on application reliability at Google and lives with his family in Kirkland.

Kirk Stopenhagen, president

Kirk has served on the Wesley board since 1998. He was a Wesley Foundation student while attending North Carolina State University from 1977-81. He grew up around campus ministry as the son of a Wesley Foundation Director who served at Ohio State University, Purdue University and the University of Cincinnati. He is a member of Redmond United Methodist Church. Kirk is a meteorologist who specializes in wind energy development.
